Well, my astronomy class went well tonight.
Did a mock exam and I've gotta say am pretty darn pleased with how it went.
We've finished off the planets, and now moved onto other bits and bobs wandering the solar system.
Tonight we did comets and meteors.
Pretty interesting when you think about it.
Comets. Lumps of cold icey nothingness that travel around for thousands of years all on their own, and as they get too close to the sun they start burning away their layers just to reveal more of the same.
Not only that, but they give us meteors too :)
They cleared up the confusion between meteorites which are asteroid based and fall to Earth giving us something interesting and tangiable to look at, and a meteor which is a worthless piece of crap really. It's pretty much the cast off crud from a comet. A tiny spec of insignificant dust that floats along doing fuck all until it comes across something purty (such as the Earth) and then in an instant, it burns brightly and a big ball of flaming hot air and then vaporises into nothing... just a big let down if you ask me.

Next week we start looking at super novas :)
