The plan for next weekend
Apr. 8th, 2007 05:16 pmRight, I think I've got my plan for next weekend sorted.
Probably will have to skip the odd place depending on time/weather and how much actual walking we get done, but this is the rough area I want to be heading in.
Friday night and we'll head up to the Edale in the Dark Peaks for our stay in The Lose Hill Hotel

The next morning and a full English breakfast should set the mood before setting off a few miles down the road to Hathersage.
This small town is believed to be the true home to the Robin Hood legend, the cemetery has a tomb for a "J.Little" and allegedly contained the remains of a 7ft tall giant... of course, like all good legends, the body went missing but historians seem to think that it is here, rather than Sherwood that the merry men were based.
Location 1 - North Lees Hall

Although not exactly P&P, North Lees Hall is generally thought to have been the inspiration for Mr Rochester home Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre, in fact Charlotte Bronte stayed here in 1845, two years before Jane Eyre was published, and many of the descriptions of Morton match those of Hathersage.
Location 2 - The Pouting Rock

It was on the top of Stanage Edge that Keira Knightley stood, looking all pouty as she gazed across to North Lees.
Stanage is one of the best grit stone rock formations in the UK.
The end of a busy day and now it's time to head back to the hotel for dinner and wine.
The next morning, and head down the road towards Bakewell (no comments about picking up tarts thank you very much!)
Location 3 - Chatsworth House

Chatsworth - one of the most impressive stately homes in England - became Pemberly in the movie adaptation, but was also extensively used in the BBC version
Location 4 - Haddon Hall

Haddon Hall was the setting for The Inn at Lambton in the 2005 movie, and the dining room became Elizabeth’s bedroom.
If weather has turned a bit pants, or we walk faster than planned then there's always these place to check out too
Location 5 - Lyme Park

A scene that got many a womans pulse racing - Mr.Darcy emerging from Pemberly Lake in a dripping wet shirt. This stately home provided the location for that BBC moment.
Location 6 - Sudbury Hall

In the BBC version, Sudbury Hall was used as the interior for Pemberly
