Jan. 8th, 2008 07:54 pmThe Dakar rally was been cancelled after an alleged threat from an Al Qaeda supported terrorist group that they will target all competitors.
As much as I'd love to have seen it (had been half thinking of going to Paris to see the start), I can completely understand the decision to cancel.
A lot of fans" are saying it is giving in to terrorism and several have said how after the London bombings they still went to work the next day.
I can kinda see that attitude, but I wonder if they'd have still gone to work if there had been a poster sent to the papers with their photograph on and a note saying "We'll blow up the #153 bus at 8:32 if you attempt to catch it"
I wonder if this is the end for the P-D. There's been more negative coverage than positive the last few years so I think this might be a good way to bow out. Shame if it is, there goes another childhood dream :(
